Executive Message

Since I started the company with my brother 50 years ago, family and community have been at the heart of everything we do.

Following the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the severe weather events in 2023 our communities that have destroyed homes, separated families and ruined roading infrastructure; it has been increasingly evident to me, that our success and resilience through the next 50 years is intrinsically linked to our environment, and the numerous staff present and future that make up the Conroy Removals family.

It's for this reason that we must remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainable business practices, so that we can continue to be a positive force in our community and the lives of all of those that have come along with us on this journey.

Managing Director

Our Environmental Impact

We are committed to understanding and mitigating our impact on the environment.

Carbon Emissions
Furniture removal involves the use of road, sea and air transport, which can result in significant greenhouse gas emissions. The company's fleet size, fuel efficiency, and distance travelled are key factors contributing to carbon emissions. Implementing strategies to optimize logistics, promote fuel-efficient vehicles, and explore alternative fuels can help mitigate this impact.

Current Initiatives include:

  • Fleet management and replacement.
    • Puchase of trucks with Euro 6/7 emission standards.
    • Purchase of first hybrid car.
  • Fleet optimisation.
  • Driver behaviour monitoring to promote fuel efficiency.
  • Fuel consumption monitoring.

Packaging and Waste
Furniture removal often entails packaging materials such as cardboard, bubble wrap, and plastic wrap. These materials contribute to waste generation and can have adverse environmental effects, including increased landfill volumes and pollution. Encouraging the use of eco-friendly and recyclable packaging materials, implementing waste reduction practices, and facilitating recycling options can minimize these impacts.

Current initiatives include:

  • Re-use of cardboard packaging.
  • Recycling of paper and cardboard packaging after re-usability.
  • Recycling of bubble wrap and plastic into plastic fence posts with Future Post.
  • Purchase of cardboard packaging manufactured from recycled content.
  • Purchase of plastic packaging that is 100% recyclable.
  • Research into non-plastic packaging alternatives.
    • Cardboard/Paper wrap to replace bubble wrap.
    • Paper tape to replace plastic tape.
  • Move towards the paperless office environment.
    • Removal files and documents maintained electronically in Moveware.
    • All customer forms converted to digital format.
    • Inventory & Condition Reports (ICR) completed on mobile devices.

Energy Consumption
The company's operational activities, including office spaces, warehouses, and storage facilities, require energy for lighting, heating, and cooling. Energy consumption contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. Prioritizing energy-efficient technologies, utilizing renewable energy sources, and adopting energy management practices can help reduce this impact.

Resource Consumption
Furniture removal may involve the use of resources like water for cleaning or maintenance purposes, as well as the production and disposal of equipment and materials. Minimizing resource consumption through efficient processes, recycling or reusing materials, and adopting sustainable procurement practices can help mitigate environmental impacts.

Biodiversity and Habitat Preservation
The company's operations may indirectly impact biodiversity and habitats through deforestation, pollution, or disturbance caused during transportation or packaging processes. Implementing sustainable sourcing practices, supporting reforestation efforts, and minimizing ecosystem disruptions can contribute to preserving biodiversity and habitats.

Sustainability Through Our Supply Chain

Conroy is deeply committed to implementing sustainable procurement practices throughout its operations. Recognizing the importance of responsible sourcing, the company prioritizes suppliers that adhere to ethical and environmentally conscious standards. We strive to minimize our ecological footprint by selecting products and materials with low environmental impact, promoting energy-efficient technologies, and reducing waste generation. Conroy actively engages in supplier partnerships that share their sustainability values, working together to achieve a more sustainable and resilient future.
